SoundCrowd is built for students like you – students with passion who want to make great things happen!
Whether you want to make a recording, buy new equipment, put on a performance (or travel to one), fund research or bring music to an under-served community, you’ve come to the right place.
We’re proud that the Academy is the first UK conservatoire to have a dedicated crowdfunding website. Crowdfunding is sponsorship by many donors, each of whom makes a small donation. It works really well because there are large groups of people inside and outside the Academy who want to see your projects succeed, such as Academy alumni and donors, friends and family.
SoundCrowd is a crowdfunding platform like KickStarter or GoFundMe, but it is for use only by Academy students. SoundCrowd will help you to raise money for projects or initiatives that can’t be funded through any other Academy scheme.
Using SoundCrowd has many advantages:
- You will have access to the latest crowdfunding technology and a dedicated space for your project on SoundCrowd.
- You will receive fundraising training from the Academy’s Development Office and a chance to share your project with thousands of Academy alumni and donors. The Development Office will also help with processing gifts and thanking donors.
- 100% of the fees are covered by the Academy, so all donations go to your project.
Sponsors, or donors, will include friends, family and Academy alumni – really, anyone who could support your project. If you promote effectively and use your team’s networks, your project could reach many people you don’t know and lead to donations!
Yes. Each project must have a minimum target, which must be reached before the funds can be released. However, many projects raise more than the minimum target!
In the project planning stage, you will need to set your minimum threshold, the smallest amount of money you need for the project to go ahead. Funds will only be deposited in your team’s account if the project has reached the minimum threshold in the allocated timeframe (usually one to three months). If your project does not reach the minimum threshold, all funds will be returned to the donors. Therefore, if you decide to use SoundCrowd (or any crowdfunding platform) it’s important that you commit to the project throughout its entire life cycle.
Once you have raised enough to carry out the project, the Academy will transfer the money to your designated account. The Academy covers 100% of the fees, so all money raised goes to your project.
Please note that all funds must be used for the stated intention and in the way specified in your project description.
